Came here to browse around for some local goods while visiting in the area. There is a huge assortment of items from toys to pancake mix to specialty hot sauce, fruits, vegetables, meats, seafood. serviceservice was fast and friendly. There is so much to see and even some local apples. I left with some maple syrup, pumpkin, pancake mix, regular pancake mix, blood, orange, sparkling juice, and a toy for my son. A very cute establishment, the walkways are a little tight which was my only drawback.
I've heard about the Jon Henry General Store through the Jamerril Stewart YouTube channel. We were taking a trip from Long Island NY down to North Carolina with a stop in PA for a few days. I knew we'd be traveling through Virginia, but I wasn't sure which route or how close this store would be for us. When I saw the sign on the highway... well let's just say I scared my partner!!! Lol The store is located pretty close off the exit. Such a cute store!! It's not a huge mega store by any means but they have what you need!!! Since we were traveling we just purchased a few things. Mushroom popcorn which I've never seen in a store before!! Also the best ice cream sandwich we have ever had!!! I've never heard of Nightingale before but I wish I could find them at home!!! I'm So glad I was able to stop there!!!!
We were driving by from Bryce Resort and saw the signs for fresh peaches (in season). I am a huge fan of local fruit & produce, so fresh and sweeter than (blah) grocery chains. It's a corner, generic-looking store but the inside is brimming with goodies; from produce, baked goods, cheeses, jams, gifts and even a candy nook in the back. What a fun country store! Happy we are supporting a local, small business.
Such a treat in this area. Good selection, thoughtful proprietor, and scrupulous about safety precautions. The owner is always helpful. He answers my dopey questions with amazing patience and makes good suggestions.
I love this place! A fantastic store you wouldn't expect to find in a small town like New Market. I really appreciate the selection of local and fair trade objects, as I prefer to buy goods that I know weren't made by people being exploited for pennies. Keep up the good work Jon, your store is great.
Wonderfully local and a great spot for picking up a gift. My son adores the general store and always finds something new to enjoy. Highly recommend if you are in New Market.
I love a General store . This one did not disappoint . It's actually a historical building and the owners of 2 years live above it . The whole downstairs is the General Store . They've got all types of old fashioned candy , toys , nuts , jams , jellies , local honey and snack items on one side . On the other side they have civil war items and local artist items . They also had some gift baskets for a great price with jellies , Apple butter , Apple sauce and other snacks in them . The young man who came down to help us was friendly and knowledgeable about the area . The Apple butter has been made locally since 1906 . They use pure cane sugar , spices and molasses. No preservatives or high fructose corn syrup found in this recipe. This building was used for this purpose back in the 1800's and in 2018 it was restored for this use. Can't wait to try it.
This store is great and offers a huge selection of goods from Virginia. I highly recommend the hot sauces from Jumpin' Run! The layout is neat and organized. Each room seems to have something different from toys to socks to food to seeds to baskets from Ghana. Definitely looking forward to visiting again next time I'm in town!
